ENSURE PREVIEWS XYLOC MD 3.0 AT HIMSS CONFERENCE

Wireless Healthcare Security Solution Secures Thin Client Devices

HIMSS Conference, Atlanta, January 28, 2002— Ensure Technologies, the award-winning leader in intelligent digital information security solutions, this week will preview XyLoc MD™ 3.0, its award-winning wireless security solution developed specifically for the healthcare industry. XyLoc MD 3.0 provides authorized personnel with convenient, personalized access to healthcare information and applications and now includes the ability to secure thin client computing devices. XyLoc MD 3.0 can be seen this week at the HIMSS Conference, Georgia World Conference Center, January 27-31, 2002, Ensure Booth, #2151.

"By preventing unauthorized access to confidential patient information XyLoc MD 3.0 helps healthcare organizations meet the legal and ethical requirements for patient record confidentiality, including HIPAA," said George Brostoff, co-founder and president of Ensure Technologies. "XyLoc also makes life easier for healthcare professionals. XyLoc MD 3.0 can instantly log users into their own medical applications as they approach different workstations located at nurses' stations, patient rooms or clinics. Because of its ease of deployment and ease of use, XyLoc MD is fast becoming a favorite security solution for the healthcare industry."

XyLoc MD 3.0, based on Ensure's patented XyLoc wireless security technology, allows healthcare professionals to concentrate on the quality of patient care rather than security protocols. It provides security and convenience in environments in which individual PCs or terminals are shared by multiple users - a necessity when users are too busy for the lengthy logon/logoff procedures required to protect sensitive patient data. XyLoc detects who is in front of a workstation and determines a user's access privileges. More importantly, XyLoc MD 3.0 knows when the authorized user steps away, and automatically secures the workstation when the user leaves for any reason. Additional features of XyLoc MD include:

  • Thin Client Device Security: Secure thin client devices from various hardware manufacturers running in conjunction with Citrix MetaFrame and Microsoft Terminal Services. This advance further expands XyLoc's ability to offer security with fast access to protected applications among a wide range of IT environments. Further, it allows thin client architecture to deliver on its full promise by automatically securing sessions and eliminating multiple sessions if users fail to disconnect or log off.
  • Thin Client Software Compatibility: Support for Citrix MetaFrame and Microsoft Terminal Services
  • Kiosk Accounts: Support for group accounts for shared workstations (e.g. "Floor 4-East Nurses" account in a hospital or "Lab Tests" account in a clinic or laboratory)
"Our healthcare professionals are using XyLoc MD and we are very pleased with the security and peace of mind the solution offers," said Bernice Burchfield, CIO of a major medical center. "The personalization features offered by XyLoc MD 3.0 are very beneficial. Allowing our doctors and nurses to configure which applications they want already open when they approach a terminal is a big time saver. XyLoc MD lets our healthcare professionals worry about patients rather than security procedures."

Unlike other security technologies, XyLocMD 3.0 takes an innovative approach to user compliance by requiring little or no action on the part of the user. With XyLoc MD 3.0, users are recognized based on their proximity to the PC and the computer is unlocked only after it has identified and authenticated them. Users wear unique XyLoc Keys (worn in conjunction with their hospital ID badge) that communicate securely with proximity detection hardware and sophisticated software residing on each workstation.

Authentication can be as easy as walking up to the computer, or as robust as requiring the user to input their name and password in addition to possessing the Key. Once authenticated, when the user walks away from the computer, XyLoc MD 3.0 secures the machine until they return or another authorized user approaches. In instances where multiple authorized users are in the area, XyLoc allows the appropriate person to select his or her name from a list of detected users.

Healthcare security administrators can manage multiple XyLoc MD systems across their networks from a central location using the centralized XyLoc Security Server. In addition to the newly supported thin client devices, XyLoc MD works with PCs, portables and workstations running Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 95/98, Windows 2000 Windows ME and Windows XP.
