Wireless PC Security Solution Helps Healthcare Organizations
Meet New HIPAA Patient Data Privacy and Security Requirements
HIMSS
Conference, New Orleans, February 5, 2001—
Ensure Technologies, the award-winning leader in intelligent
digital information security solutions, today announced XyLocMD™
2.0, the next generation of its wireless PC security
solutions designed specifically to deliver convenient, personalized
access to hospital information and applications for authorized
personnel. XyLocMD 2.0 now includes automatic encryption,
enhanced personalization and smaller XyLoc KeyCards to help
healthcare organizations meet the security requirements set
forth under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act (HIPAA). Ensure will feature XyLocMD 2.0 at the Healthcare
Information & Management System Society (HIMSS) Conference,
Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, February 4-8, 2001,
Booth #1245.
XyLocMD
2.0, based on the patented XyLoc wireless security technology,
transparently prevents unauthorized access to confidential
patient data, while at the same time making access to PC and
network services and medical applications more convenient
for physicians and healthcare staff. XyLocMD 2.0 includes
several new features, including:
- Single
Sign-On & Enhanced Application Integration, a powerful
single sign-on capability conveniently and easily logs authorized
users into their secured applications.
- XyCrypt™,
an automatic file encryption technology that makes sensitive
information on computers more secure than ever before possible.
XyCrypt File Encryption extends XyLoc’s convenience and
security by automatically and transparently encrypting data
files, creating an additional and powerful level of information
security. It prevents unauthorized access to data files
on the hard drive of a notebook or desktop PC, even if other
security measures have been surmounted.
- Personalization
Wizard, an easy to use tool that enables users to specify
which applications and custom settings are launched as soon
as they log on to any XyLoc protected PC. Email clients,
calendars, medical record databases and other frequently
used applications can be automatically opened and ready
when authorized users approach their PCs.
- New
XyLoc KeyCard, a smaller form factor with extended battery
life and power saving modes. The new KeyCard offers
an 18-24 month battery life, on/off buttons and a programmable
shutoff timer to conserve battery life when the KeyCard
is not in use.
- RSA
Keon® Ready Certification, designating
XyLocMD’s compatibility with RSA Keon public key infrastructure
(PKI) authentication solutions that enable, manage and simplify
the use of digital certificates in today’s leading applications.
- Entrust-Ready™
Branding, XyLocMD has been granted Entrust-Ready™ status
to add a layer of protection to the Entrust PKI solution,
helping to prevent unauthorized access to digital certificates.
“Now that
the much-anticipated HIPAA security regulations have been
finalized, healthcare organizations can begin their journey
toward compliance. Ensure’s XyLoc wireless security technology
was developed to increase system security in environments
where multiple people access multiple machines,” said George
Brostoff, co-founder and president of Ensure Technologies.
“Given the hectic pace at which healthcare professionals work,
XyLocMD 2.0 is an essential part of a security system that
brings compliance with the HIPAA regulations. The healthcare
professionals using XyLocMD say it’s an ideal solution for
HIPAA because it’s so easy for them to use.”
Healthcare
professionals using XyLoc MD value the ability to have authorized
users automatically logged into their applications by simply
wearing the XyLoc KeyCard. By allowing doctors and nurses
to configure which applications they want already open when
they approach a PC, they can focus on patients and quality
of care rather than security procedures.
XyLocMD
2.0 is a robust and hassle-free security solution that transparently
and conveniently protects PCs and patient data from internal
security breaches. Unlike other security technologies, XyLocMD
takes an innovative approach to user compliance by not requiring
any action on the part of the user. XyLocMD is completely
hands-free: no passwords to enter, no tokens to insert, no
fingerprints to scan. Using its patented wireless technology,
XyLocMD detects who is in front of the workstation based on
their proximity to the PC, whether they are an authorized
user and what access privileges they have. Most importantly,
XyLocMD recognizes when the authorized user walks away from
the PC for any reason and automatically secures the workstation
until they return or another authorized user approaches the
PC.
XyLocMD
users wear unique badges (XyLoc KeyCards that can be used
in conjunction with their hospital ID badge) that communicate
securely with proximity detection hardware and sophisticated
software residing on each workstation. Because XyLocMD can
positively identify authorized users, it can instantly log
users onto their own medical applications as they approach
different workstations located at nurses’ stations, patient
rooms or clinics. Healthcare security administrators can manage
multiple XyLocMD systems across their networks from a central
location using the centralized XyLoc Security Server.
