ENSURE
TECHNOLOGIES SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS FUNDAMENTAL PATENT FOR XYLOC
WIRELESS PC SECURITY
Ann
Arbor, Mich., June 19, 2001— Ensure
Technologies, the award-winning leader in intelligent digital
information security solutions, today announced that it has
successfully defended the right to market its XyLocÔ
wireless PC security solution in a lawsuit brought by Superwave
Ltd. against Kanematsu Communications Ltd. (KCS), Ensure's
distribution partner in Japan.
Earlier
this year, Superwave sued KCS, alleging that Ensure's XyLoc
solution infringed on its Japanese patent. The Tokyo District
Court determined that Ensure Technologies' XyLoc products
do not infringe on the Superwave patent. The court ruled that
KCS is free to market Ensure's XyLoc products in Japan. Furthermore,
no royalty or damages were assessed by the court.
"Patent
litigation can be long and resource-intensive, but it is imperative
that technology companies take a firm stance to contest invalid
patent infringement claims," said Dr. Thomas Xydis, co-founder
and chief technologist of Ensure Technologies. "We are
pleased that the Tokyo District Court concurred."
Ensure Technologies helps organizations protect their digital
information by deploying wireless security solutions that
deliver convenience and easy of use to end users. XyLoc is
a patented computer security and personalization solution
that prevents unauthorized access to confidential company
data, and simultaneously makes access to network services
and business applications more convenient for authorized employees.
XyLoc enables the computer to know automatically and effortlessly
who is requesting access to its resources, delivering a level
of personalization and convenience previously unavailable
in security solutions.
XyLoc's
full-time access control technology protects confidential
data when it is most vulnerable - after logon, when the authorized
user - for whatever reason - steps away from the PC. Suited
for professionals who need easy, yet secure, access to information
"on the fly," XyLoc is proximity-activated and completely
"hands-free," requiring no user interaction.
XyLoc
has received RSA SecureID® and Keon® Ready certification
from RSA Security, and Entrust-Ready Branding certification
from Entrust Technologies. Ensure is an associate member of
the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), a
group working toward a wireless technology specification that
provides links between mobile computers, mobile phones and
other portable and handheld devices, and connectivity to the
Internet. As more Bluetooth devices come to market,
security will become essential to protect these devices from
unauthorized access. Using XyLoc's patented technology, network
managers can easily load and manage digital certificates on
any Bluetooth PC, phone or PDA, which will add powerful
security features to Bluetooth devices and appliances.
