Wrist Companion Features Bluetooth Wireless Communications
and XyLoc Wireless Personalization and Security Technology
for Securing PCs and Mobile Bluetooth Devices
CeBIT,
Hannover, Germany, March 20, 2001—
Ensure Technologies, the award-winning leader in intelligent
digital information security solutions, and Seiko Instruments
Inc. (SII), one of the world's leading watch manufacturers,
this week will demonstrate a prototype of the only interactive
Bluetooth wristwatch offering hands-free computer security.
Developed by SII and incorporating Ensure's patented XyLoc
wireless personalization and security technology, the SII
Wrist Companion automatically and conveniently protects Bluetooth
PCs, PDAs and mobile phones from unauthorized access and simultaneously
enables more personalized access to these devices by authorized
users. SII and Ensure will be demonstrating the SII Wrist
Companion with XyLoc wireless security this week at CeBIT,
Hannover, Germany, March 22-28, 2001, Bluetooth Pavilion,
Hall 1, Stand 5d 4.
"SII's
Wrist Companion is an excellent example of the extensibility
of Bluetooth technology and applications," said
George Brostoff, co-founder and president of Ensure Technologies.
"On its own, the Wrist Companion does a tremendous job
putting communications and personal organization on the wearer's
wrist. By combining it with XyLoc, it becomes an even more
powerful tool for protecting the user's data, personalizing
wireless devices including password memory, and allowing more
convenient access to other information portals and digital
content."
The SII Wrist Companion using XyLoc incorporates a Bluetooth
radio frequency (RF) link giving the user a host of capabilities,
including:
- Securing
and personalizing Bluetooth devices using XyLoc wireless
proximity technology and software
- Internet
access via a mobile phone
- Sending
and receiving SMS messages
- Controlling
incoming and outgoing voice communications and email
- Remote
control WAP support for PC mouse, CD/MP3, video and other
Bluetooth devices
- Storing
contact names/addresses
"We are
pleased to be collaborating with Ensure on this unique application
for the Wrist Companion," said Jun Hirotomi, Manager of WD2
Group at SII. "With XyLoc wireless security and personalization
technology, our Wrist Companion becomes similar to a smartcard
with proximity activation. This provides very tangible benefits
and empowers the wearer while making it easier to secure and
use other information appliances."
XyLoc
is a patented computer information security and personalization
solution that prevents unauthorized access to confidential
user data while simultaneously making access to applications,
including remembering user names and passwords, more convenient
for authorized users. XyLoc enables the Bluetooth device
to know automatically and effortlessly who is requesting access
to its resources, which delivers a level of personalization
and convenience previously unavailable.
Ensure
is an associate member of the Bluetooth Special
Interest Group (SIG), a group working toward a wireless technology
specification that provides links between mobile computers,
mobile phones and other portable and handheld devices, and
connectivity to the Internet. As more Bluetooth devices
come to market, security will become essential to protect
these devices from unauthorized access and use.
