IBM'S EMBEDDED SECURITY SUBSYSTEM

NetVista Desktops

Technologies, the award-winning leader in intelligent digital
information security solutions, today announced the availability
of its XyLoc™ PC security software to support IBM's Embedded
Security Subsystem including Client Security Software Version
3.0.
Ensure's
patented XyLoc wireless security technology provides security
and hands-free convenience for users, allowing them to concentrate
on their work rather than security protocols. XyLoc automatically
detects who is in front of a PC or laptop, determines the
user's access privileges, and grants access if the user is
authorized. More importantly, XyLoc provides full-time access
control: it knows when an authorized user steps away and automatically
secures the PC when the user leaves for any reason.

By
combining both security technologies, Ensure's software takes
advantage of the IBM embedded security chip and provides additional
levels of authentication.
IBM
Client Security Software Version 3.0 for ThinkPad and NetVista
models incorporating the Embedded Security Subsystem, enables
people to do "on-the-fly" encryption of files with
the embedded security chip simply by placing files in a specified
folder. The user no longer needs to remember to take extra
steps to encrypt the file and can also have an optional virus
scan performed on the file before encryption. Encrypted files
are stored on the PC's hard drive with algorithms driven by
the embedded security chip, and they stay protected even if
the PC is lost or stolen.
Unlike
other security technologies, XyLoc takes an innovative approach
to user compliance by requiring little or no action on the
part of the user. With XyLoc, users are recognized based on
their proximity to the PC and the computer is unlocked only
after it has identified and authenticated them. Users wear
unique XyLoc KeyCards (which may be worn in conjunction with
an organization's ID badge) that communicate securely with
proximity detection hardware and sophisticated software residing
on each PC.
With XyLoc,
authentication can be as easy as walking up to the computer,
or as robust as requiring the user to input their name and
password in addition to possessing the XyLoc KeyCard. Once
authenticated, XyLoc's full-time access control ensures that
when the user walks away from the computer, it is secured
until he returns or another authorized user approaches. In
instances where multiple authorized users are in the area,
XyLoc allows the appropriate person to select his or her name
from a list of detected users.
Administrators
can manage multiple XyLoc systems across their networks from
a central location using the centralized XyLoc Enterprise.
XyLoc works with PCs, portables and workstations running Microsoft
Windows NT, Windows 95/98, Windows 2000, Windows ME and Windows
XP.
